THE ENVIRONMENT AGENCY is about to start flood defence work at Hedon to improve the flood protection for over 350 properties.
They will be raising the low spots in the existing flood banks along Burstwick Drain, starting tomorrow 23 November 2009. The town suffered during the major region-wide floods of 2007.

The coastline from Bridlington to Barmston is on flood watch today Sunday 1st November 2009 as heavy rain continues.
The Environment Agency has raised the level of alert for the area earlier this morning and is continuing to monitor the situation.

Over 100 people attended the Hull and Holderness Opposes The Incinerator public meeting in Hedon’s Alexandra Hall last night (Friday 26th June 2009).

The East Riding Council’s ruling Councillors have pledged to fight flood-management proposals drawn up by the Environment Agency. The Council maintains that the proposals will direct future investment in flood defences to urban areas at the expense of rural areas like the East Riding.

The HOTI group (Hull and Holderness Oppose the Incinerator) is to hold a public meeting in Hedon on Friday 26th June 2009, 6:30pm at the Alexandra Hall.
The meeting will provide the latest information on the campaign to prevent the building of a waste-burning incinerator at Saltend near Hedon.

The BBC has reported that a month long consultation begins today (7th April, 2009) on plans to issue an operating permit for a waste-burning incinerator at Saltend.
The Waste Recycling Group Ltd already has planning permission to build an incinerator but has now re-submitted an application for a permit to operate the facility.

The Environment Agency has commissioned some work on Burstwick Drain in Hedon to raise the bank at low points, and build flood walls where necessary, as part of a wider £2m project to strengthen flood defences aimed principally at protecting Burstwick which was hit hard by the floods in July 2007.
