  1. HUMBERSIDE POLICE have released this:

A joint investigation has begun between the police and the fire service to establish the circumstances which led to a Recycling Plant being completely burnt to the ground over the bank holiday weekend.

Fortunately no-one was working on Sunday at the Recycling Plant when the fire started, however damage caused to the unit is estimated as upwards of £20,000.

The police and fire service are now treating the fire as arson, and are appealing for any witnesses who where in the area of the Century Yard Ferndale Park Industrial Estate, adjacent to King George Docks in Saltend, Hedon between 1030hrs and 1230hrs on Sunday 4th May to ring the police.

Anyone with any information, which could help the police piece together how the fire started, is also encouraged to call in.

As a result of the fire, power was down in the Preston/Hedon area for a significant amount of time during the blaze, road closures were imposed due to the dangers of travelling debris, residents were encouraged to stay in doors and keep their windows and doors shut, and every available police resource was deployed to the area, due to large crowds gathering, and traffic light failures in and around the area.

As the fire has been crimed as ‘arson’ and identified as being ‘of doubtful origin’ we are appealing for anyone with any information surrounding this large scale fire to come forward.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Humberside Police on 101, quoting log number 310 of 4/5/14.
