HEDON CHILDREN’S CENTRE is leading the way in a campaign to highlight the benefits of breastfeeding.
Mums and babies from across East Yorkshire are being invited to take part in an event on Friday 1st August 2014 at East Park in Holderness Road, Hull to highlight the benefits of breastfeeding.
The event is being organised by the Hedon Children’s Centre’s breastfeeding café and City Health Care Partnership. It is part of the Big Latch On, a synchronised event which is being held at venues around the world during World Breastfeeding Week, (1st to 7th August 2014).
Parents are invited to take along a picnic and get together in front of the East Park bandstand at 10am, ready for registration and the Latch On at 10.30am.
Health visitors, nursery nurses and peer supporters will be on hand and there will be a cake stall and tombola. Lots of local mums are expected to attend the Big Latch On too.
World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated in 120 countries. Last year around 50 people attended a similar event organised by Hedon Children’s Centre.
Councillor Julie Abraham, the portfolio holder for children, young people and education at East Riding Council, said she hoped that mothers would take the opportunity to take their babies and young children along to the event at East Park.
“The Big Latch On provides an opportunity for breastfeeding women to get together in their local communities, host their own events and identify opportunities for on-going support,” she said.
Hedon breastfeeding cafe, with Breastfeeding Peer Support, is held at the Rosedale Community Unit, Preston Road, Hedon on Thursdays 11am – 12noon.
The Peer Support mobile helpline is 07785 748 035.
