THE 4 STARS Lifestyle Team held their “Ultimate Garden Party” last Saturday (23rd Aug 2014) and despite a bit of inclement weather, the team managed to pull off a 5-star party experience for their guests and visitors.
The Team’s Adult Supervisor (and Harry’s Mum) Emma Wharton reports:
“The 4 stars life style team have spent all summer planning and preparing for their major lifestyle fundraising event … the ultimate garden party which was held on Saturday and planning was spot on; unfortunately the weather wasn’t playing so we had to make the best of it, but it didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits and there was a great turn out.
“Lots of neighbours, family, friends and even some passers-by popped in for a cuppa and a slice of cake. There were lots of stalls and activities with scoop a duck (our version of hook a duck in a washing up bowl), guess the name of the rabbit and the lollipop stick game proved very popular and the treasure map went down well. There was a book stall with plenty to choose from, a plant stall and for those with a sweet tooth they could buy more cake from the cake stall.
“The tombola as always was popular and the ‘naffle’ sold out in minutes (you buy a gift bag and the prize could be good or it could be, you guessed it…naff). Kelly Fores from Keyingham was thrilled to win a £20 PREZZO gift voucher. The raffle was really well supported, not surprising as the prizes included £20 gift vouchers for ZAIKA, NEXT, Family tickets for the DEEP and tickets for Hull KR or Hull FC to name but a few!
“Face painting, hoopla and music from our DJ Mr Barrie Atkins ensured the party spirit lasted all afternoon and we would like to make a special mention and huge thank you to John and Jenny Irwin from the Huntington’s Disease Association as well as Mark and Kerry Shakesby for attending our garden party with the triplets Phoebe, Olivia and Oscar. (These are two of our three good causes as well as Give Becky a Break)
“In total the garden party raised over £570 and so now with only a few sponsors to collect in the 4 stars have raised a whopping £1136.42!!!! Well done guys”
Well done indeed! The 4 Stars have certainly had a busy summer and have done wonderfully well for their three good causes:
- ‘Give Becky a Break’ appeal which has been launched to help Becky Liddle from Keyingham; Becky has suffered a severe stroke which has hospitalised the normally plucky Brownie who is only 9-years-old;
- Help for Shakesby family from Hull, who are involved in a major battle with child cancer;
- Huntington’s Disease; including raising awareness of this little-known about neurological disorder.
But perhaps one of the team’s other unsung achievements is popularising the sport of Malteser racing!!
Thanks to Emma for the report and photos! The Fifth star!
