Station’s £1,036 pounds for Macmillan!

IN A FANTASTIC effort, regulars at The Station Pub in Hedon have raised £1,036 for the charity Macmillan Cancer Support.

Most of the funds were raised at the pub’s annual outing to the racecourse in July and during a Fun Day held last month, but it’s been an ongoing fund-raising challenge as Jim Lindop – who with wife Sue Lindop organises the fundraising drive every year – explained:

“What a brilliant display of giving by many of our friends and patrons of the Station Hotel! A great effort from all those who turned out for the very successful horse racing coach trip to Market Rasen – the 7th we’ve organised – then the family Fun Day at the pub on the Bank Holiday Sunday. The charity donations were enhanced by selling ‘bus stops’ and others taking part in the ice bucket challenge.

“All this resulted in a cheque for £1,036 being presented to a representative from Macmillan Cancer Support on Thursday. Both Sue and I wish to thank all those who gave time, effort, tombola prizes and money. Thank you again!

“Now for next year!?” added Jim with his thoughts already turning towards future funding drives.

Richard Spenceley, from Macmillan was absolutely delighted with the pub’s efforts and to receive the cheque.

“This all goes to help Macmillan with its support services. Whilst many people know about our nurses, not so well-known are our other support services, in particular helping people with financial advice whilst coping with cancer. Also valued is the fact that we provide a helpful and reassuring service available at the other end of a telephone line.”
