Magdalen Park recognised in Healthcare Design Awards

THE NEW nursing home on Magdalen Lane has been successful in reaching the finals of the national Pinders Healthcare Awards for 2015.

Magdalen Park which opened in August 2014 has been nominated by judges as one of the top three finalists in the Care Homes for the Elderly section of the Awards which seeks to acknowledge the contribution made by designers, architects and the owners of care homes to the well-being and quality of life for those in their care. The judges look to reward quality of care, achieved through quality of design, rather than design alone.

As a finalist, representatives from Magdalen Park will be invited to attend a gala presentation luncheon in London in the spring as the guests of the award sponsors and will receive a framed certificate to commemorate their achievement. The nursing home has also been awarded £500 to give to their chosen charity as Laurence Garton, Development Director for family run Yorkare Homes Ltd. who own Magdalen Park, describes:

“In reaching the finals we have been awarded £500 to our nominated charity, Macmillan Nurses, who will be invited to receive the award cheque in early March when we will be welcoming the Pinders team to Magdalen Park to view the Home before deciding upon the outright winner.”

Mr Garton says that all those at Magdalen Park are delighted with the news of reaching the finals of the Pinders Awards:

“Despite being very proud of what we have developed I entered our new Home without any particular expectations, having never been through the process before, but felt it was worthwhile considering the quality of the Home. We were actively encouraged to do this by professionals within the care industry who have visited to see what we had built.

“The Pinders Awards are the most prestigious within the UK and are highly sought after, so we are delighted to have made the final 3 ‘Best Designed/built Care Home’ section nationally.

“I would like to thank the whole team who have contributed to this achievement, including Fluid Design Associates (Architects), Pacy & Wheatley (Builders) and our in-house team here at Yorkare Homes. This is the largest award in the Healthcare calendar so we are obviously delighted.”

If it wins the first prize in the category, Magdalen Park will receive a specially commissioned award for display in the nursing home.
