BOTH the Haven Arms and the Shakespeare Inn in Hedon have been accredited as LocAle pubs by Hull & East Yorkshire CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale). This means that each stocks real ale beer from an East Yorkshire based brewery or one that is based within 25 miles of the pub.
While each pub might stock more than one such beer from more than one qualifying brewery, both have stocked or currently do stock beer from Holderness’ own Great Newsome Brewery at South Frodingham near Winestead.
There are lots of benefits from local pubs stocking locally brewed real ale, but a key feature of the LocAle scheme is that more money is spent and retained locally and so boosting the local economy. It’s also good for the environment as lorries carrying the beer travel less miles and so help reduce pollution on our roads.
And of course it’s great to have a real variety of drinks on offer from our local pubs – and they taste good too (in the opinion of this real-ale supping blogger) 🙂
