Hedon Youth Group – “Thanks for our Night Challenge!”

TWO TEAMS of young people from Hedon Youth Group took on the Humberside Police Night Challenge last month. It is the fourth year the Youth Group has entered the Night Challenge – a 14-mile overnight hike with mental and physical tasks to complete – and the teams are very keen to express their thanks to the organisers for arranging an event which has been enjoyed by everyone that took part.

The overnight orienteering experience is aimed at 13-17 year olds from across the Humberside Police area and targets young people who have not had opportunities to take part in such an event before. Those taking part work alongside the Police, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, Maritime and Coastguard Agency, Humberside and Lincolnshire Orienteering Club and HM Prison Service

The walk is designed to encourage young people to work together as a team in challenging conditions throughout the night, whilst attempting mental and physical tasks. The route planning, navigation and team leadership was left to the team to successfully complete under the watchful eye of a walk supervisor.

The Youth Group, which meets on Fridays at its Red Cross headquarters on Sheriff Highway between 7pm and 9pm, is always on the lookout for more volunteers.

If you are able to help, either regularly or occasionally, then please contact the group via email admin@hedonyouthgroup.org or Scott Burton on 07411 747426.
