WITH sales of Wrist Bands doing extremely well it seems that ‘festival fever’ has struck Hedon now as all the local conversation turns to the subject of HedFest 2015.
In the 18 hours of HedFest (Friday 14th August from 6pm – 12pm and Saturday 15th August 12pm – 12am) we have worked out that there must be over 40 hours worth of acts and entertainment taking place at the five main venues. There are just over 100 slots in the programme for artistes to perform!
Just released today is the news that local Hull and East Yorkshire favourites TRE AMICI are to perform at St Augustine’s Church on the Friday night which will make 20 performances at that venue during the festival. At the Hedon Blog we are looking forward to seeing local girl singer/songwriter Katie Spencer perform on the Saturday at 3.20pm. We’ve heard lots about Katie and her folksy style! Just before Katie performs, is a historic first for Hedon when the town’s Hand Bell Ringers group performs their first ever public piece at the church at 2.30pm using their newly restored bells!
The church will be providing an eclectic and acoustic mix of entertainment during HedFest and will also be staging an art exhibition.
The Haven Arms will feature protest singer and Thorngumbald resident the Bard of Holderness from 6.15pm on the Friday and that set finishes with the popular The Black Delta Movement who expect to take to the stage at 10.15pm on the Friday. Saturday sees appearances by popular acts (by virtue that they appear more than once at different venues) Queenan Cox, Mr Sneaks and The Wayward Suns.
The Alexandra Hall finishes earlier than the other venues on both nights. Friday ends with a performance by the Quick Silver Kings, while Saturday ends with the legendary Hull Rock & Rollers Johnny Pat & The Aces. Earlier on the Saturday at 4.00pm Hedon outfit Cuba Drive will play.
The Queen’s Head is expected to be full throughout most of the festival creating a great atmosphere to hear the likes of The Velvet Dolls on the Friday and the Living Room Lads and The Froot 67 on the Saturday.
John Marshall’s Buzz Comedy brings laughter-makers James Alderson, Simon Bligh, Mike Newall, Carl Jones, Marilyn Paradise, Jared Shooter and Josh Smith to the Shakespeare Inn on the Friday and Saturday. Also at the Shaky on the Saturday are the talents of local poet David Thompson (the Chairperson of HedFest) and the Hedon Blogger’s old school buddy Mike Watts both of whom who will be bringing some of their new and published works to the bar!
As well as the entertainment at the Wrist Banded venues, MASC (Musical Academy for Schools and Communities) is bringing live music to Market Hill from 12.30 – 2.30pm which will keep people entertained until the start of the festival Carnival Procession which will be assembling from early afternoon ready to set off for 2:30pm.
Lots of other stuff going on – if your business or group is doing something for HedFest then please let us know in the comments and we’ll give you a plug.
- Holyrood House (Baxtergate, King’s Place) is holding a Garden Party from 10am on the Saturday which as well as lots of other good stuff will allow people to see Hedon’s ancient Kilnsea Cross close-up and personal.
- Stalls and food in Market Place on Saturday.
- Charity Stalls at Market Hill on Saturday.
