Albermarle September 2012walking bootsALBERMARLE Care Home will be the starting point on Saturday (5th September 2015) for a sponsored walk to raise money for Dementia Pods in HICA specialist care homes.

Some 60 walkers from the HICA group are expected to set off from Albemarle, (a Hica Group care home in Hedon) on Saturday morning around 10am and will walk along the old railway track to Keyingham, where they will rest for a while before returning, again by foot, to Hedon, a total distance of around 10 miles.

Dementia Pods are mobile ‘pop-up’ reminiscence rooms that turn any space into a therapeutic and calming environment helping to change the quality of life for people with dementia, currently living in care.

“As well as being an enjoyable and therapeutic activity that helps a person connect with their past they also help to build good relationships between staff and people who use the service.” said HICA Chief Executive Penni Brown.

Hica have been supported in their quest to raise the money by a number of local and national companies who have pledged their support and sponsorship including Sylvester Kael, Johnson’s of Hull, Space Creative and Share Care. National catering companies Brakes and Apetito have stepped forward and offered to supply all the water and snacks required for refreshments.

The walk is part of the Hica Group’s Shine Initiative which was set up to underpin the organisation’s commitment to continuous improvement alongside their pledge to ‘make a difference’ to the lives of the they people they support.

Refreshments will be on hand at Albermarle on Saturday morning with cakes, fruit and sweets. Hedon folk are invited to come and support the sponsored walkers and see them set off on their 10 mile journey!
