Wizard of a Winner! Scarecrow Walk 2015

Scarecrow winner Carol Danby CAROL DANBY was the winner of this year’s Hedon Scarecrow Walk with her marvellous display of characters from the Wizard of Oz. Carol’s creation got the first place trophy and certificate at a presentation evening arranged at the Hedon Town Hall on Friday.

Scarecrow from Oz cuCarol of Holderness Grange says that she spent weeks making the display and used books from the film version of the Wizard of Oz to guide her in creating the figures – particularly to get The Scarecrow just right!

The scarecrow displays at Holderness Grange did really well in the competition – Pat Merrit’s Mad Hatter’s Tea Party got second place and Vera Hardy’s Emmerdale got fourth place. Magdalen Park Nursing Home got third place with their Ladies Enjoying the Sun display with Doreen Barker and Steph Ashton (Activities Coordinator) collecting the certificate.

The winning display in the nurseries, schools and youth groups section was Hedon Nursery School with their Scarecrow Wedding display. Second was Hedon Youth Group’s Horror themed display.

Councillor Sarah Rommell thanked all those who had made scarecrows. She also gave her thanks to those Hedon Town Councillors who had acted as judges, and in particular Sharon Cawthorne and Leah Green for being the independent judges.
