Get ready for some magical moments for Christmas 2015!

CHRISTMAS season brings some very special events to the area in addition to our own Hedon Town Lights Switch On Friday 27th November 2015.

In PRESTON, experience some real magical moments when two church venues stage great events for Christmas time.

Festival of Christmas Trees centrepiece 2014The All Saints Church will be open for its traditional Festival of Christmas Trees opening every Saturday and Sunday starting 5th December to Sunday 20th December from 1pm to 4pm.

Richard Thorp from the church says: “This will be our thirteenth year of running the festival and we would like to thank everyone who has supported the event this year – and in previous years – with their wonderful displays. The money raised at this year’s event will be towards funding for a new community room within the church.”

The tradition of decorating trees to celebrate Christmas was first introduced to this country by Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in the 1840’s. And with some 40 trees decorated by local community groups, businesses and individuals, it is a tradition wonderfully preserved by the All Saint’s Church – this is one of the area’s ‘must-see’ events for Christmas!

All Saints Church, Preston – Visiting times 2015, 1-4pm:

Saturday 5th December and Sunday 6th December
Saturday 12th December and Sunday 13th December
Saturday 19th December and Sunday 20th December

Also, this year in Preston at the nearby Methodist Chapel at the crossroads, a Celebration of Christmas is running on the same weekends (as above) from 1pm – 3:30pm featuring original Christmas-themed artwork produced by local groups and people from the local community. A display featuring the many different aspects of Christmas is being staged, and a variety of festival stalls will be available.

So with two seasonal events to visit, Preston is definitely a stopping off point for those people wanting to discover a truly original and delightful Christmas experience.

Burstwick Christmas Tree

Another great family event takes place in the village of BURSTWICK when its traditional Christmas Celebration on Sunday 29th November 2015 (the Sunday after the Hedon lights switch-on) leads to the blessing and lighting-up of the village living Christmas Tree.

The Village Hall will host the Christmas Fayre with craft and charity stalls, a craft corner especially for the children will be set up, and a festive carol concert will take place. Meanwhile, All Saints Church next to the Village Hall will host the display of Advent Crib Scenes. Each display, made out of different materials by different groups in the village, provides a different viewpoint of our favourite nativity scene. The aroma of Mulled Wine, purveyed in the church specially for the event, always adds to the Christmassy atmosphere!

Santa (and Mrs Claus) will be visiting on his sleigh provided by the Holderness Lions, and he will later lead the procession to the village Christmas Tree for it to be lit and blessed.

The Burstwick Christmas tree is a growing, living tree imported from Italy. As the tree grows each year, then the amount of decorations needed to dress it grows too!

Join the festivities from 4pm to make sure you don’t miss anything!

Without a doubt through our What’s On? page and live events links we bring you unrivalled notice of Christmas events in the local area. And of course there is still time to include your event too!
