EVERY ONE was a winner at the Magdalen Park Bake Off on Saturday! The eight entries to the competition were all mouth-wateringly marvellous! However, the three-strong judging team led by Laura Hugill from the nursing home had to pick winners. Laura was joined in judging by one of the residents of the nursing home, and a resident’s son, a professional baker.
Prizes and certificates were given out at a short ceremony held in the Magdalen Arms at Magdalen Park (27 Feb 2016) attended by a dozen residents of the nursing home, along with some relatives and staff members. Winning a special award for the best-decorated cake was the fantastic Owl cake made by Anna Meuss, with the feathers made from chocolate buttons.
Runner up was the gravity-defying Malteser cake made by Sarah Cullen with the award being collected by her son Oliver. And overall winner was… drum roll… Steph Ashton the nursing home’s own popular activities coordinator! Her Easter themed Kit Kat cake catching both the eyes and scintillating the taste buds of the judges.
Well done to all the cake-makers – we’re sure that this event is likely to be repeated next year!?
