RESIDENTS in Hedon, Preston and East Hull are being invited to drop in to visit Yorkshire Water’s new customer engagement centre and find out more about the company’s work to tackle odours from the waste water treatment works at Saltend.
The new drop-in centre, which is located above Butterflies Nursery, opposite the Netto in Hedon (actually Preston South), officially opens its doors on Monday 21st March 2016. Initially, the centre will be open Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm, but opening times may change depending on the needs of local people.
Customers visiting the centre will be able to speak to members of a dedicated local Customer Engagement Team which has been set up to keep customers informed about the company’s investment at the Saltend site. The seven strong team has been in place since late last year and has been proactively contacting customers in the area who have recently contacted Yorkshire Water about the Saltend site.
Nick Topham, Yorkshire Water’s Programme Director for Hull and East Yorkshire, said the company recognised that there was a great deal of interest locally in the work at Saltend.
“We know that the unacceptable levels of odour from our Saltend works have had a big effect on the local community, so there is understandably a lot of interest in the work we are doing now to solve the problem.”
“That’s why we set up a dedicated local Customer Engagement Team and are opening the new drop-in centre. We want to ensure people have the opportunity to find out more information and ask any questions they might have.”
“The feedback that we have been getting from our proactive visits to customers is that they are pleased to see us in the area and are pleased that we are keeping them up to date on progress on site so hopefully the drop in centre will help us reach even more local people.”
South West Holderness Councillor Mike Bryan commented: “This is great news and I feel will be of real benefit to our community. I feel Yorkshire Water are taking this very seriously in providing these facilities to meeting with local residents in our area, that are especially for the local residents to meet with them to speak direct to discuss their concerns and Issues. As a ward member, I know this will be great news not having to ring up or wait on the phone and feel you are getting nowhere.
“Let’s hope that we can soon solve the problem of the smells.”
