Bikers Leaving HavenThe first Hedon Biker Weekend caused a buzz of excitement across Hedon over the weekend, with the main ride out through Hedon involving up to 60 bikes in convoy.

Over 200 beautiful, new and classic motorcycles visited the Haven Arms, Havenside car park during the long weekend event. Iconic Harley Davison, Norton, Triumph and other famously named motorbikes joined the ever-changing line-up of bikes that delighted members of the public and photographers.

NortonThe main public attraction was a ride through Hedon town centre by the bikers, who then carried on through the Holderness countryside and villages and across to stop in Withernsea before the return journey to Hedon. The inclement weather, which included a fierce hailstorm on Saturday at the time of the ride out, failed to spoil the event albeit deterring some would-be campers at the Haven Arm.

A full programme of entertainment with 11 bands performing was organised on the Friday and Saturday by the Haven Arms and Africa Studios. Both nights were packed out with visitors and locals engendering a fantastic atmosphere.

Wendy Chambers of the Holderness Hi-Siders Motor Cycle Club – known to her biker friends as “Raggy” – was the powerhouse behind the Hedon Biker Weekend. The Hi-Siders MCC have met in the Haven Arms weekly on Tuesday evenings for 18 years and it was there that Wendy was approached by Hedon Town Councillor, Di Storr, and chair of the council’s events working group local resident David Thompson, with the idea of organising the biker weekend. After being inspired to organise the event, actually making it happen took a lot of hard work, said Wendy.

Wendy Chambers“A lot of organisation was involved by lots of people, such as Ron from East Yorkshire Motorcycle Action Group and Ian from Withernsea. We got the Advanced Riding for Bikers group involved, and CasCare for the ride out first aid support. We aimed to support the Yorkshire Air Ambulance who had a stall on Saturday.

“I think the weekend was a great success, bringing lots of bikers to the town of Hedon. I’d like to thank everyone for turning up and the Haven Arms for staging the event. I hope we can do this again next year.”

The following interview with Wendy was recorded before the ride out on Saturday.
